Jocotitlán is a municipality situated in the northwestern region of the State of Mexico within the country's central highlands. The municipal seat shares its name with the town and is positioned at the base of the Jocotitlán, also known as Xocotépetl, volcano. The majority of the remaining municipal territory is located within the Ixtlahuaca Valley.
The region has been inhabited by the Mazahua indigenous group since the pre-Hispanic period, with their cultural traditions remaining prominent in several smaller communities throughout the municipality. Economically, the area underwent significant industrialization starting in the 1960s with the establishment of the Pasteje Industrial Park. Currently, approximately half of the municipality's population is employed in the industrial sector.
