Ixtapan del Oro

Mexico

Ixtapan del Oro is a town and municipality located in the State of Mexico within the country of Mexico. The name "Ixtapan" originates from the Nahuatl language and translates to "in the place of little salt."

The suffix "del Oro" was added to the name in 1894, derived from the Spanish word for "of the gold." This addition occurred following the discovery of several veins of gold in the area.
