San Ignacio Cerro Gordo is a municipality located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It was officially established as an independent municipality on January 1, 2007, having been carved out of the former territory of Arandas.
The creation of the municipality was initiated by the Congress of the State of Jalisco. Although the decree to form the municipality was published in the Periódico Oficial El Estado de Jalisco on December 30, 2003, the formal establishment occurred three years later. This timeline allowed for municipal authorities to be elected by the local citizens during the election of municipal presidents held on July 2, 2006.
