Mascota is a town and municipality located in the state of Jalisco in central-western Mexico. It is situated within the Costa-Sierra Occidental Region and covers a total land area of 1,843 km2.
The name Mascota is derived from the root "Amaxacotlán," which translates to "place of deer and colubrids."
