Zempoala

Cempoala, also known as Zempoala, is an important Mesoamerican archaeological site located in the municipality of Úrsulo Galván within the Mexican state of Veracruz. The site is situated on a flat coastal plain, positioned approximately one kilometer from the shore of the Actopan River and six kilometers from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

The location holds historical significance as it was the first urban settlement encountered by the Spaniards upon their arrival on the mainland of North America. It remains a key site for understanding early Mesoamerican history and geography in the region.
