Acaxochitlán is one of the 84 municipalities located in the state of Hidalgo in central-eastern Mexico. The municipality encompasses a total land area of 226.1 km2.
As of 2005, the population of Acaxochitlán was recorded at 34,892 residents. The region is characterized by its linguistic diversity, with three languages spoken in the municipality: Nahuatl, Spanish, and Otomi.
