Petatlán is a city located in the municipality of Petatlán along the Pacific Coast of the Mexican state of Guerrero. Situated within the Costa Grande region between Zihuatanejo and Acapulco, the city faces the Pacific Ocean to the south and is bounded by the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains to the north.
The city serves as the seat of a large municipality and is notable for housing the La Soledad de Maciel archeological site. It is also known for the Sanctuary of the Padre Jesús de Petatlán, which contains a 17th-century image of Christ reported to have performed religious miracles. In recent history, the area has experienced violence linked to the drug trade as well as conflicts between local farmers, environmental groups, and business interests.
Petatlán maintains an international connection as a sister city to St. Peter, Minnesota.
