San Luis de la Paz is a city and municipality located in the northeastern region of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. It was founded on August 25, 1552, serving as a defensive town along the Spanish Silver Road. This historical route provided a vital link between the mines of Zacatecas and Mexico City during the period of Spanish domination.
The city's name originates from a peace treaty signed on August 25, the feast day of Saint Louis of France, between the native Chichimecas and the Otomi Indians, who were allies of the Spaniards. The area is also known by the name Chichimeca Nation.
