Irapuato is a city and municipality located in the central region of the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Situated at an elevation of 1,724 meters (5,656 feet) above sea level, it lies at the foot of the Arandas Hill between the Silao River and the Guanajuato River. It serves as a significant regional hub for trade and transportation.
The city is the second-largest in Guanajuato, with its municipality covering an area of 851 square kilometers and including various outlying communities. While it currently hosts several automotive and chemical manufacturing plants, Irapuato has historically been an agricultural center known for raising pigs and cattle, as well as producing refried beans and strawberries. The region is also recognized for its luxurious gardens, which produce fruits and flowers popular throughout Mexico.
