León, officially known as León de Los Aldama, is the most populous city and the municipal seat of the municipality of León in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Located roughly in the center of the country, it is situated within the macroregion of the Bajío on the Mexican Plateau.
According to the 2020 INEGI census, the city has a population of 1,579,803 people, while the municipality totals 1,721,215. These figures rank León as the fourth-most populous city and the third-most populous municipality in Mexico. The broader metropolitan area recorded a population of 2,140,094 during the same census period.
