Francisco Ignacio Madero González was a prominent Mexican businessman, revolutionary, writer, politician, and statesman. He is best known for his role as an advocate for democracy and his opposition to the dictatorship of President Porfirio Díaz. Following Díaz's fraudulent victory in the 1910 election, Madero initiated the Mexican Revolution to oust him from power.
Madero served as the 37th president of Mexico from 1911 until he was deposed and assassinated in a coup d'état in February 1913. Although his presidency ended shortly after it began, the Mexican Revolution continued until 1920, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths.
