Tláhuac is one of the sixteen boroughs located at the southeastern edge of the metropolitan area of Mexico City. While it remains a significant administrative division within the capital, it is characterized by a mix of urban and rural landscapes.
The borough has undergone extensive urbanization throughout the 20th century, particularly in its northwestern sections. Despite this development, rural communities persist within its borders, primarily situated in the southern and eastern portions. Tláhuac is notable for having experienced the fastest rate of population growth in Mexico City since the 1960s.
