Mexico City is the capital and largest city of Mexico. It serves as one of the world's leading cultural and financial centers and is currently classified as an Alpha world city according to the 2024 ranking by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is also recognized as the most populous city in North America.
The city is situated in the Valley of Mexico on the high Mexican Central Plateau at an altitude of 2,240 meters. Administratively, it is organized into 16 boroughs, known as alcaldías, which are further divided into smaller neighborhoods called colonias.
