Iztapalapa is a borough located on the eastern side of Mexico City. It is named after and centered on the formerly independent municipality of Iztapalapa, which serves as its core area.
The borough also encompasses several other communities that are governed by the city of Iztapalapa. It remains a significant administrative and geographic division within the larger metropolitan area of Mexico City.
