Guerrero, officially known as the Free and Sovereign State of Guerrero, is one of the 32 federal entities that compose Mexico. Located in southwest Mexico, the state is divided into 85 municipalities and has a population of approximately 3.5 million people. It shares borders with Michoacán to the north and west, the State of Mexico and Morelos to the north, Puebla to the northeast, and Oaxaca to the east.
The state's primary cities include its capital, Chilpancingo, and its largest city, Acapulco. Other notable urban centers within the region are Petatlán, Ciudad Altamirano, Taxco, Iguala, Ixtapa, and Zihuatanejo. Guerrero is characterized by a diverse demographic makeup, serving as home to various indigenous communities such as the Nahuas, Mixtecs, Tlapanecs, Amuzgos, and formerly Cuitlatecs. Additionally, the Costa Chica region of the state hosts communities of Afro-Mexicans.
