Ignacio Zaragoza

Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín was a prominent Mexican military officer and politician. He is primarily recognized for his leadership during the second French intervention in Mexico, where he commanded a Mexican army of 3,791 men.

Zaragoza is best known for leading his forces to victory against a larger force of 5,730 French troops at the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. This significant military success is commemorated annually in Mexico as Cinco de Mayo.
