Hidalgo del Parral is a city and the seat of the municipality of Hidalgo del Parral located in the southern part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is situated approximately 220 kilometres (140 mi) from the state capital, Chihuahua City. As of 2015, the city had a population of 109,510 inhabitants, with a metropolitan area population of 129,688.
Historically known as San José del Parral during the colonial period, the city served as a significant supplier of silver to the Spanish empire. The name was changed following independence from Spain to honor Fr Miguel Hidalgo, who is widely considered the "Father of the Country." In 2023, the Mexican government designated Hidalgo del Parral as a Pueblo Mágico in recognition of its cultural and historical importance.
