Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, colloquially known as Coita, is a town and municipality located in the western part of the Mexican state of Chiapas. Situated approximately 24 km west of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, it covers portions of the Depresión Central and the Montañas del Norte regions. The municipality is bordered by Tecpatán to the north, Berriozábal, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Suchiapa to the east, Villaflores to the south, and Jiquipilas and Cintalapa to the west.
The name of the city originates from the Nahua language and translates to "forest of ocozote trees." The suffix "de Espinosa" was appended in 1928 to honor Raymundo Enríquez Espinosa, who served as the first governor of Chiapas. Ocozocoautla officially gained city status in 1926.
The region is characterized by a warm and humid climate with vegetation consisting primarily of high and medium rainforest. In 2023, the Mexican government designated Ocozocoautla as a Pueblo Mágico, a title recognizing its cultural and historical significance.
