La Paz, officially known as Nuestra Señora de La Paz, is the seat of government for Bolivia. It serves as the capital of the department of the same name and is the third-most populous city in the country, with a population of 755,732 residents as of 2024.
The metropolitan area of La Paz includes the neighboring city of El Alto along with several smaller towns. This urban region has a total population of 2.2 million people, making it the second most populous urban area in Bolivia after Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
