Geographically, it is situated across the Mexico–US border from Tecate, California, and stands as the largest city positioned between Tijuana and Mexicali.
As of 2019, the municipality of Tecate had a population of 108,860 inhabitants, while its broader metropolitan area reached a population of 132,406. The city is notably recognized for housing the Tecate Port of Entry and as the production site of Tecate beer.
