Aguascalientes, officially known as the Free and Sovereign State of Aguascalientes, is one of the 32 states that make up the federated entities of Mexico. It is situated in the northern part of the Bajío region within the north-central portion of the country.
The state is bordered by Zacatecas to the north, east, and west, and by Jalisco to the south. Located at an average altitude of 1,950 meters (6,400 feet) above sea level at 22°N, the region is characterized by a predominantly semi-arid climate.
