Zurbatiyah is a city located in the Wasit Governorate of Iraq. It serves as a busy port of entry from neighboring Iran.
Historically, the area was inhabited by a majority of Arabs and a minority of Turkoman until the late 20th century, at which point Kurds became the majority population. During the 19th century, Feyli Kurds migrated to the region under Safavid Iran.
The Ottoman treaty of 1639 identified three settlements—Jassan, Badra, and Zurbatiyah—as part of the Ottoman Empire. This specific arrangement placed Zurbatiyah on the Ottoman side while rejecting the Banu Lam's assertions to Bayat and Dehloran, which resulted in a split among the Arab tribes living in the area.
