Kufa

Kufa, also spelled Kufah, is a city located in Iraq on the banks of the Euphrates River. It is situated approximately 170 kilometres (110 mi) south of Baghdad and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) northeast of Najaf.

The city has an estimated population of 110,000 as of 2003. Kufa is recognized as a holy city in Shia Islam, alongside other notable sites such as Najaf, Karbala, Mashhad, Kadhimiya, Samarra, and Qom.
