Al-Kut, also known by names such as Kutulamare, Kut al-Imara, or Kut Al Amara, is a city located in eastern Iraq. It is situated on the left bank of the Tigris River, approximately 160 kilometres southeast of the capital city, Baghdad.
The city serves as the capital of the Wasit Governorate. While the province was historically known as Al Kut, it was renamed Wasit during the 1960s. As of 2018, the estimated population of Al-Kut is approximately 389,400 people.
