Ar-Rutbah is a town located in the western Al Anbar province of Iraq. Predominantly inhabited by Sunni Arabs, the settlement has a population of approximately 28,400 residents.
The town occupies a strategic geographic position along the Amman–Baghdad road and the Kirkuk–Haifa oil pipeline. Situated on a high plateau, it is characterized as a "wet spot" that receives an annual rainfall of 114.3 mm (4.5 inches). Due to its location, Ar-Rutbah has been described as the most isolated town of any size in Iraq.
