Rennes is a city located in the east of Brittany in northwestern France. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Ille and Vilaine. The city serves as the prefecture for both the Brittany region and the Ille-et-Vilaine department.
As of 2023, Rennes had a population of 230,890 inhabitants. Its larger metropolitan area is ranked as the tenth most populated in France, with a total population of 789,516. The residents of the city are referred to as Rennais (masculine) and Rennaises (feminine) in French.
