Tupiza is a city located in the Potosí Department of Bolivia. Situated at an elevation of approximately 2,850 meters above sea level, it has a population of 25,709 residents.
The geography of Tupiza and its surrounding environs is defined by dramatic red escarpments that rise from coarse, gray terrain. While much of the landscape is arid and thorny, green agricultural land exists adjacent to the nearby Tupiza River. The area's quebradas are noted for being susceptible to flash flood runoff caused by sudden cloudbursts.
