Getting Around La Gi
La Gi is a coastal town in Bình Thuận province, set on the South Central Coast of Vietnam and strung along the coastal road that runs from Bình Châu via Lộc An beach toward Phước Hải and Đất Đỏ. It is a compact, low-key place rather than a big city, and that shapes how you move around: most everyday trips are short, and the practical choices are walking, local buses, taxis and ride-hailing, with long-distance buses and trains handling the connections to the rest of the country.
Rail, Metro and Tram
La Gi has no metro or tram network, and no railway station of its own. The nearest rail option for reaching the area is Vietnam Railways' service to Suoi Kiet, from which you continue to La Gi by taxi — a transfer of roughly 50 minutes. If you are coming from Ho Chi Minh City, this train-plus-taxi combination is one of the standard ways to arrive, and tickets can be booked through dsvn.vn or 12go.asia. Once you are in La Gi, trains play no part in getting around town.
Buses and Public Transport
Local bus lines 01, 02 and 03 stop near La Gi Bus Station, which is the town's main transport hub. The station sits on Đường Nguyễn Thái Học, within easy reach of the city center, and its ticket office is open from 05:00 to 20:00. Facilities include free Wi-Fi, an ATM, toilets (for a small fee), accessibility features such as elevators and ramps, and dining options in the form of local eateries and cafes nearby. There is parking close by, taxis wait outside the station, and the surrounding area is generally well lit and considered relatively safe for solo travelers. Note that there are no showers and no car rental at the station. If you are departing on a long-distance bus, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure for check-in and boarding.
For longer journeys, La Gi is served by intercity buses rather than a single direct link to every destination. From Ho Chi Minh City, for example, there is no direct connection — you take a bus to South Phan Thiet Bus Terminal and then a taxi onward to La Gi. That bus service is operated by Saigon Public Transport (MexBus), bookable via mexbus.saigonpt.com.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are readily available, particularly outside La Gi Bus Station, and ride-hailing apps work in the area. For the Suoi Kiet–La Gi leg in particular, the operators to look for are Grab Taxi (grab.com/vn), Mai Linh Taxi Group (+84 28 3829 8888, mailinh.vn) and SunTaxi (+84 258 3885 001, suntaxi.vn). For a visitor, these are the most straightforward way to cover the gaps that buses do not fill — station transfers, trips to the beach, and door-to-door runs when you are carrying luggage.
Walking
La Gi's layout — a town center with the bus station close by, and the coast within the same general area — makes walking a reasonable option for short local trips, especially around the station and central streets. Beyond that, the town is spread across several wards and communes, so for anything further afield you will want a bus, taxi or ride-hailing car rather than relying on foot alone.
Getting from the Airport into La Gi
La Gi has no airport of its own, so arrivals come through the nearest major gateway and continue overland. The route from Ho Chi Minh City is the one most visitors use, and it always involves a transfer — there is no direct connection. Your options are:
- Train plus taxi: Take a Vietnam Railways train from Ho Chi Minh City to Suoi Kiet, then a taxi onward to La Gi (about 50 minutes for the taxi leg). Book train tickets via dsvn.vn or 12go.asia.
- Bus plus taxi: Take a MexBus (Saigon Public Transport) bus from MexBus HQ to South Phan Thiet Bus Terminal, then a taxi to La Gi. Book via mexbus.saigonpt.com.
- Drive: A direct road transfer from Ho Chi Minh City to La Gi is also possible if you prefer a single door-to-door journey.
Whichever you choose, arrange the final leg — the taxi from Suoi Kiet or from South Phan Thiet — in advance or on arrival using Grab, Mai Linh or SunTaxi, and allow extra time around your bus or train departure. Once you reach La Gi Bus Station, local lines 01, 02 and 03, plus the taxis waiting outside, will get you to your accommodation.
