Getting Around Lafayette
Lafayette is served by a local public bus system, the Lafayette Transit System (LTS), which is the main option for visitors without a car. The city is generally car-oriented, so most visitors rely on a mix of buses, taxis or ride-hailing, and walking in the compact downtown core.
Public Buses
Lafayette Transit System (LTS) is the local bus operator, run under the Lafayette Consolidated Government. It also serves the nearby communities of Broussard and Carencro.
- Day service: generally runs Monday–Friday from early morning until late afternoon, and Saturday from mid-morning until late afternoon.
- Night Owl service: an evening service that extends bus availability on Monday–Saturday evenings.
- Fares: reduced fares are available for individuals with disabilities, seniors, and Medicare cardholders. Children age 5 and under ride free with an adult. A discounted yearly pass is offered for eligible riders.
- Holidays: no or limited service on major holidays including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Mardi Gras, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve afternoon, and Christmas Day.
- Planning: LTS offers a bus tracker and estimated arrival times through its website.
- Contacts: general information, fares, schedules, and customer service at (337) 291-8570; paratransit at (337) 235-8976; lost and found at (337) 291-8573; Broussard or Carencro service at (337) 262-5993.
Rail, Metro and Tram
Lafayette does not have a metro, tram, or commuter rail network for getting around the city.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Visitors should expect to arrange these independently, and it is worth confirming availability in advance, particularly for early-morning or late-night trips.
Walkability
Walking is most practical in the downtown core and other compact districts; for longer trips across the city, a car or bus is generally needed.
Getting from the Airport into the City
Lafayette is served by Lafayette Regional Airport.

- Use the LTS bus tracker for estimated arrival times.
- Ask about reduced fares and the discounted yearly pass if you qualify as a senior, Medicare cardholder, or person with a disability.
- Keep the LTS contact numbers handy for schedule questions, paratransit, and lost items.
