Getting Around Davie

Davie sits in Broward County, South Florida, and how easily you can get around depends a great deal on which part of town you are in. The town stretches a long way east to west, and its transit coverage is not uniform: eastern Davie, especially the corridor around University Drive and the university campuses, is far better served than the western side, which is largely car-dependent and has no community shuttle coverage.

Public Buses

Broward County Transit (BCT) is the county's fixed-route bus system and the main public transport option within Davie. Several routes run inside the town's boundaries, including:

Fares are straightforward: a single ride costs $2.00, an all-day pass is $5.00, and a monthly pass is $70.00. If you are staying in eastern Davie, BCT is a realistic way to move around without a car.

Community Buses and Free Shuttles

Davie also runs its own small community buses, the Davie Blue and Green routes, which act as local circulators. The Green Route is free and serves eastern Davie neighborhoods, useful for errands, medical appointments, and connecting to BCT routes.

Another free option is the SFEC Campus Shuttle, also known as the Tri-Rail Connector. It operates Monday through Friday, 7:15 AM to 8:25 PM, and links the South Florida Education Center campuses — Broward College, Nova Southeastern University, and McFatter Technical College — to the Fort Lauderdale Airport Tri-Rail station. It works both as a campus circulator and as a feeder to the rail line.

Commuter Rail

Tri-Rail is South Florida's commuter rail line, running from Miami-Dade through Broward to Palm Beach County. Davie itself has no Tri-Rail station, so you will need to reach a nearby one. The closest options are Sheridan Street Station, south of eastern Davie via Sheridan Street or I-95, and Fort Lauderdale Airport Station, which is connected to the airport and reachable from the university corridor via the free SFEC Campus Shuttle.

Tri-Rail is a practical choice for trips to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, and it connects to downtown Miami via a Metrorail transfer.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Private car services are available in the area, including limousine and airport transfer companies that serve the Tri-County area and offer sedans, SUVs, vans, and stretch limousines, with infant and child booster seats on request. For everyday trips, ride-hailing apps are a common fallback, particularly in western Davie where bus service is thin.

Walkability

Walking is realistic mainly in the denser eastern part of Davie, along the University Drive and Hiatus Road corridor, where bus routes, the SFEC shuttle, and the free Green Route converge. Outside that area, and especially west of Hiatus Road and Nob Hill Road, the town is spread out and car-dependent, and you should not count on getting around on foot.

Getting In from the Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is the closest major airport, a short drive from eastern Davie via I-595 East, and a somewhat longer one from the western side of town. For a no-cost transit option from the university corridor, the free SFEC Campus Shuttle connects to the FLL Tri-Rail station.

Miami International Airport (MIA) is further south, reached via I-75 to 826 or the Florida Turnpike, and is a longer trip. Private airport transfer services also run to and from both airports and the seaports throughout the Tri-County area.

By Car

Davie is directly accessible from I-95, I-595, the Florida Turnpike, and I-75. I-595 runs east–west through the center of town, I-75 runs north–south along the western edge, and the Florida Turnpike cuts north–south through the middle. The Sawgrass Expressway is reachable via I-75 or I-595. Note that the I-595 Express Lanes are reversible and tolled.
