Getting Around Brovary

Orientation: Brovary and Kyiv

Brovary sits just east of Kyiv and forms part of the capital's metropolitan area, so a visitor here is effectively on the edge of a much larger transport network. The city is traditionally divided into an old town, a new town and an industrial part, and the modern centre is the newest part of town, with shops, offices and cafes around the central park. That layout matters practically: most of what a visitor wants is in the centre, and the main transport hubs are the railway station and the bus stops that cluster around it.

Rail connections

Brovary has its own railway station, which is the anchor for rail travel in and out of the city. Trains run from Brovary to Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi station, operated by Southwestern Railways and Ukrainian Railways, with several departures a day and journeys well under an hour. Fares are low, and Ukrainian Railways offers different classes of carriage at different prices.

There is no direct train from Brovary into the very centre of Kyiv. The practical route is to take the train to Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi and then transfer to the metro at Vokzalna, continuing to Khreshchatyk for the centre. Allow roughly three-quarters of an hour in total for that combined trip.

Buy tickets at the station or through the operators' official channels. Note that transport in the region has been disrupted by the Russia–Ukraine war, so check current services before relying on any timetable.

Metro and trams

Brovary itself has no metro or tram network of its own. The metro comes into play only on the Kyiv side: the Vokzalna–Khreshchatyk transfer described above is the standard way to reach central Kyiv by rail. For everyday movement within Brovary, plan on buses, minibuses and taxis rather than rail-based transit.

Buses and minibuses (marshrutkas)

Buses and shuttle minibuses, known locally as marshrutkas, are the main way people get around Brovary and connect with Kyiv. The network is run by several operators, including Brovary and District, Kyivpastrans, suburban route operators and private route-taxi companies.

Local bus lines link the city's key points: the polyclinic, the clinic, the asphalt plant, the railway station and the terminal, with routes extending out to Trebukhiv, Krasylivka and the Geological Survey area. For Kyiv connections, line 404 runs between the railway station and Lisova metro station, and lines 701 and 706 link Kvitneve, Brovary and Kyiv. Marshrutka lines serving the same stops include 326, 335, 336, 340, 342 and 359.

Services start early and run into the evening: the 701/706 corridor is the first bus of the day from around 05:19 and the last until roughly 22:24, while the first marshrutka (335) appears around 06:19 and the last (359) around 22:53. On weekdays, buses on the main local lines run frequently through the morning peak, with some lines departing every ten to fifteen minutes. Schedules are indicative, so confirm times in a transit app before setting out.

There is also an intercity bus option toward Kyiv operated by Pavluks Trans from Brovary station, though it runs only a few times a day and is not a direct city-to-city service. For most visitors, the bus-plus-metro combination via Lisova is the more useful route.

Tickets are bought from the driver or conductor on board; keep small change handy. For route planning, the Moovit app covers the Brovary and Kyiv area and is a reasonable way to check departures and stops.

Taxis and ride-hailing

Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive by Western European standards, with a trip between Brovary and central Kyiv taking around half an hour and costing only a few dollars. Local operators include Avrora, and ride-hailing apps such as Bolt and Opti are available. For late evenings or trips with luggage, a taxi or app-hailed car is the simplest option, and it avoids the metro transfer entirely.

Getting around on foot

The modern centre is compact enough for walking, with the central park, its monuments, shops, offices and cafes all close together. The historical museum on Gagarin Street and the stadium and swimming pools are also within the town's core. The railway station, however, sits a fair walk from some stops — the nearest stop to the station is roughly a fifteen-minute walk — so factor that in if you are arriving by train with bags.

Arriving from the airport

The reference material does not describe direct airport transfers for Brovary, so the reliable approach is to treat the airport as a Kyiv arrival and connect through the capital. From Kyiv, take the metro to Lisova and pick up bus 404 to Brovary's railway station, or take a train from Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi to Brovary. A taxi or ride-hailing car direct from the airport is the most straightforward option if you are carrying luggage or arriving late, and the fare should still be modest. Because wartime disruption can affect any of these links, confirm your route on arrival before committing.
