Getting Around Dnipro
Dnipro is a large city on the Dnipro River in eastern Ukraine, and it has a well-developed public transport system that makes it fairly easy for a visitor to move between the centre, the main rail stations and the surrounding districts. The sections below cover the main options: the metro, trams and trolleybuses, buses, taxis and ride-hailing, walking, and how to reach the city from its airport.
Public Transport: Metro, Trams and Trolleybuses
The backbone of the city's public transport is a network of trams, trolleybuses and a single metro line. Together these cover much of the urban area and are the cheapest way to travel.
- Metro — Dnipro has one metro line, useful for crossing part of the city quickly.
- Trams — a tram network serves the city, with several routes running through the centre and outlying districts.
- Trolleybuses — an extensive trolleybus network complements the trams and metro.
Tickets are bought as single rides. Fares are lower on the metro, trams and trolleybuses than on buses, so if you are paying per journey, these modes are the most economical. Timetables are published on the official city transport website (in Ukrainian) and are also shown on the network map. Buses
Buses fill in the gaps in the rail-based network and reach many parts of the city that trams and trolleybuses do not. Dnipro has a large number of bus routes, and single-ride tickets on buses cost more than on the metro, trams or trolleybuses. As with the other modes, schedules are available on the official website and on the network map, and you can check routes and times on EasyWay and Google Maps.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are the easiest and most flexible way to get around Dnipro, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the city or travelling outside public transport hours. Ride-hailing apps are widely used and are a convenient option for visitors. Popular services include:

Scooters and Car Sharing
For short trips, kick scooters are a fun and quick way to cover the last stretch of a journey. Bolt and JET.UA both operate scooter services in the city. If you prefer to drive yourself, the car-sharing company Getmancar makes cars available for short-term use.
Walking
Central Dnipro is compact enough that walking is a practical way to get between nearby sights, cafés and the riverside. For longer cross-city trips, though, the distances are large, so most visitors combine walking with the metro, trams, buses or a taxi.
Getting from the Airport into the City
Dnipro's airport is not currently an option for arriving travellers: because of the Russia–Ukraine war, Ukraine's airspace is closed to aviation. There are therefore no passenger flights into the city, and no airport transfer arrangements to describe. Visitors should plan to arrive overland instead.
Arriving by Train
The main rail gateway is Dnipro Main Station (Dnipro Holovnyi), on Vokzalna Square. It is served by trains from Kyiv (including Intercity+ services), Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia (also Intercity+) and other cities. There is also a second station, Dnipro South (Dnipro Pivdennyi). From the main station you can continue into the city by metro, tram, trolleybus, bus or taxi.
Arriving by Bus or Boat
Long-distance buses arrive at the bus station on Vulitsa Kurchatova. Operators such as Avtolux and Gunsel run services from Kyiv. There have also been reports of ferries travelling down the Dnieper from Kyiv, though this is not a dependable option to plan around.
Practical Tips
- Buy single-ride tickets for each journey; fares are lower on the metro, trams and trolleybuses than on buses.
- Check timetables on the official city transport website or the network map, and use EasyWay or Google Maps for route planning.
- Use a ride-hailing app (Uber, Bolt, Uklon, OnTaxi, Opti or Shark) when you want a direct, door-to-door trip.
- Expect to walk for short central trips, but switch to public transport or a taxi for longer distances.
- Plan to reach Dnipro by train or bus, since the airport is not operating while Ukraine's airspace is closed.
