Understanding Neili's Location and Layout

Neili (內壢) is an area of Taoyuan, Taiwan — specifically Neili Village (內壢里) in Zhongli District — and its transport hub is Neili railway station (內壢火車站). The station sits on the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) West Coast line, and it anchors the surrounding neighborhood: a bus stop of the same name sits right beside the station entrance, and everyday amenities such as convenience stores, banks, and eateries are clustered within easy walking distance.

For a visitor, the key thing to understand is that Neili is not a self-contained sightseeing district with its own metro system. It is a well-connected railway stop on the corridor between Taipei and Taoyuan, and most trips in and out of the area are made by train, bus, or taxi, with the Airport MRT and the Taoyuan high-speed rail station reachable nearby.

Getting Around Neili on Foot

Walking is the simplest way to cover the immediate area around Neili station. The bus stop is directly adjacent to the station, and the surrounding streets hold shops, banks, and food options, so a visitor arriving by train can reach the basics on foot without any further transport.

Two nearby rail and metro stations are also within walking range for those willing to stretch their legs: Laojie River station on the Airport MRT is a short walk away, and Zhongli TRA station is a somewhat longer walk. If you are staying near Neili station, you can treat the neighborhood as walkable and save the trains and buses for trips farther afield.

Rail: Taiwan Railways and the Airport MRT

Neili is served by Taiwan Railways (TRA) Local and Local Express trains, which makes it a practical stop for regional travel along the West Coast line. Trains run from early morning until around midnight, so late-evening arrivals are possible but the service does wind down. The TRA is the cheapest car-free way to reach Neili from Taipei, with direct trains departing frequently throughout the day.

The Airport MRT is the other rail option in the area, though it does not stop at Neili station itself. The nearest Airport MRT stations are Laojie River, a short walk away, and Huanbei, a longer walk. The Airport MRT Commuter service runs from early morning until after midnight, giving visitors a second rail corridor into and out of the neighborhood.

For longer-distance or faster connections, the Taoyuan high-speed rail station is reachable by bus from the Neili station area rather than by a direct rail link.

Buses and Public Transport

Neili station is well served by local and intercity buses, and the bus stop is immediately beside the station, so transfers between train and bus are quick and easy. Buses run from early morning until late at night, covering a wide range of destinations that matter to visitors: Zhongli, Yuan Ze University, the Taoyuan high-speed rail station, Taoyuan Veterans Hospital, Yangmei railway station, and Taoyuan station.

Intercity coaches also connect Neili with Taipei. One direct bus links MRT Zhongshan station in Taipei with Neili station, and another Kuo-Kuang service runs between Taipei station and Taoyuan station. These are useful if you prefer a single seat over a train transfer, though the train is generally the faster and cheaper option.

Fares on these routes are inexpensive, and you can pay on board; for repeated local trips, ask at the station or a convenience store about stored-value cards, which are the standard way to pay for buses and trains across Taiwan.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis are available in the Neili area and are the most flexible option for door-to-door trips, particularly late at night or when carrying luggage. Several taxi operators serve the region, including Crown Taxi, MTaxi, the Taipei Gov Taxi Line, Taiwan Taxi, and Tripool, all reachable by phone. Ride-hailing apps work in Taiwan as well, so you can book a car from your phone if you prefer not to call.

A taxi between Taipei and Neili is a comfortable but comparatively expensive choice; it makes sense mainly for groups, heavy luggage, or late-night travel when trains and buses have stopped. For most visitors, the train remains the better value.

Getting from the Airport into Neili

Taiwan's main international gateway is Taoyuan International Airport, and the Airport MRT is the primary rail link between the airport and the Neili area. Because the Airport MRT does not stop at Neili station itself, you have two practical approaches: ride the Airport MRT to a nearby station such as Laojie River or Huanbei and walk or take a short taxi ride to Neili, or connect to the TRA network and continue to Neili station by train.

The Airport MRT Commuter service operates from early morning until after midnight, so most flight arrivals can be accommodated without resorting to a taxi. If you arrive very late, a taxi from the airport is the reliable fallback.
