Getting from the Airport
Gaziantep Oğuzeli Airport serves as the primary gateway for air travelers, located approximately 15 km south of the city center. The airport provides standard facilities, including car hire options for those who prefer to drive themselves.
For those preferring public transport or professional transport from the airport:
- A Havaş bus service operates specifically for flights arriving from Istanbul.
- Taxis are available at the airport and provide a direct route into the city center.
Public Transportation Network
The city's public transport is managed by a combined system known as Gaziulaş. This network includes an extensive bus system, tram lines, and local commuter trains.
Buses: The city features a large number of bus routes. To use these services, passengers can pay directly with a bank card upon boarding.
Tram: There are three tram lines in operation. For most visitors, the T1 (red line) is the most practical option, as it runs from the area near the railway station through the central districts toward the south.
Rail: While the city is currently disconnected from the national mainline rail network, there is a local commuter line called Gaziray that runs across the city center. Additionally, a regional train runs once daily from Nizip via Taslica; however, these rail services are generally less convenient for typical tourist itineraries.
Taxis and Local Travel
Taxis are a reliable and plentiful mode of transport throughout the city. They are noted to be inexpensive, making them a practical choice for reaching specific destinations quickly.
Walkability: Despite being a sprawling city, many points of interest in Gaziantep are located within walking distance of one another, allowing visitors to explore much of the area on foot.
Intercity Travel
For those traveling from other cities in Turkey, the primary hub is the Gaziantep Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali, located about 6 km north of the city center. From this terminal, local "tangerine" buses can be taken to reach different parts of the city.
The city is also accessible by road via the D400 and O-52 motorways, which connect it to major hubs like Adana and Şanlıurfa.
