Getting Around Nazilli

Nazilli, Turkey

Orientation

Nazilli is a district of Aydın Province in Turkey's Aegean region, the second-largest city in the province after Aydın itself. It sits on the Menderes River, in a valley full of citrus trees, olives and figs. For a visitor, the practical consequence is that Nazilli is a compact, walkable town rather than a sprawling metropolis, and the main ways in and out are by intercity bus and by regional train.

Getting Around the City

Nazilli has no metro or tram network. Getting around town is done on foot, by local bus or minibus, or by taxi. The town centre is small enough that most everyday needs — the market area, shops, cafés and the otogar — are within comfortable walking distance of one another, so a visitor based centrally can rely on walking for much of the day.

For longer hops across the district, local buses and dolmuş-style minibuses are the standard option. Fares are typically paid in cash on boarding; there is no visitor-oriented travelcard or day pass described for Nazilli, so keep small change handy.

Rail

Nazilli is served by the Basmane–Nazilli Regional railway service, which runs between İzmir and Nazilli. This is the one rail link a visitor is most likely to use, and it makes Nazilli reachable directly from İzmir's Basmane station without changing to a bus. There is no metro or tram in Nazilli, so the train is a point-to-point connection rather than part of a local urban network.

Buses and Intercity Coaches

Intercity buses are the main way visitors reach Nazilli. The town's principal stop is Nazilli Central Bus Station (the Otogar); a second stop is listed at Aydın Caddesi 8. Eight operators serve the town — Pamukkale Turizm, FlixBus, Anadolu Turizm, Efe Tur, Kontur, Anadolu, Metro Turizm and Kamil Koç — so there is plenty of choice of company and departure time.

Useful connections for a visitor include:

Onboard, Turkish intercity coaches typically offer air conditioning, power sockets and Wi-Fi. Hand luggage and checked luggage are usually free, while bulky luggage and drinks may cost extra.

On tickets: economy fares on these routes are modest — for example, Denizli and İzmir are among the cheapest connections, Selçuk a little more, and the longer Isparta and Afyonkarahisar runs the most expensive of the group. Most travellers book three to seven days ahead, and booking earlier generally means cheaper fares. Direct connections vary by origin city and travel date, so check the specific route you want rather than assuming a daily direct service.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Taxis are available in Nazilli and are the simplest option for short trips with luggage or for reaching the otogar at an awkward hour. The source material does not describe a local ride-hailing app operating in Nazilli, so plan on hailing a cab on the street or at a rank, or asking your accommodation to call one.

Walkability

Nazilli is a good walking town. The centre is compact and the main visitor amenities are close together, so you can cover the core on foot without needing transport. Walking is also the pleasant way to take in the market atmosphere that gave the town its original name, Pazarköy — "marketplace."

Getting There from the Airport

Nazilli has no airport of its own. The practical route for a visitor flying in is to arrive at a larger regional airport and continue overland by coach or train. İzmir is the key gateway: intercity coaches run to Nazilli Central Bus Station from both İzmir's Central Bus Station and Basmane, taking roughly an hour and a half to two and a quarter hours, and the Basmane–Nazilli Regional railway service also links İzmir directly with Nazilli. From İzmir, you would transfer from the airport into the city to pick up either the coach or the train at Basmane.

Denizli is the other convenient arrival point if your flight lands there: coaches from Denizli to Nazilli take about an hour and a quarter. Whichever gateway you use, book your onward coach a few days ahead where possible, and confirm whether a direct service runs on your travel date.
