Getting Your Bearings
Odintsovo is a city and the administrative center of Odintsovsky District in Moscow Oblast, and it sits as a western suburb of Moscow. For a visitor, that geography is the single most useful fact about getting around: Odintsovo is not a self-contained destination with its own big transit system, but a suburban node tied tightly into Moscow's regional rail, bus and road networks. Practically speaking, you will move around Odintsovo on foot, by bus or marshrutka (shared shuttle minibus), by suburban train, and by taxi or ride-hailing — and you will reach Moscow itself by train or bus.
Arriving from Moscow
The most convenient way in is the suburban train — the elektrichki — which departs for Odintsovo from Moscow's Belorussky Train Station. The journey takes roughly forty minutes. Odintsovo has its own railway station, so the train drops you in the town itself rather than on its outskirts.
There is also a bus connection: bus #339 leaves about every fifteen minutes from Moscow's Kievsky Bus Station and reaches Odintsovo in around forty minutes. Fares are paid per journey, and the bus is a reasonable alternative if you are starting from that part of Moscow.
Rail and Metro Connections
Odintsovo's rail link is part of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD), specifically line D1, which runs through to Moscow's Belorussky station. Trains on this route are frequent — departures are commonly described as roughly every ten minutes, though some listings show hourly service, so it is worth checking times before you rely on a tight connection. The MCD is a useful option because it behaves like a fast, high-frequency suburban rail line rather than a once-an-hour country train.
Beyond the MCD, the rail corridors serving the Odintsovo area include the Belorussky, Savyolovo and Kursk directions. Belorussky-direction trains run from early morning until around one in the morning, which makes late-evening returns feasible. Note that the nearest rail station to some parts of town, such as Otradnoye, may be a walk of well over a kilometre — check which station is closest to your actual destination rather than assuming Odintsovo station is always the right one.
Odintsovo itself has no metro or tram network of its own. The metro enters the picture only as a connection point: bus line 316 links the Peredelkino settlement area to the Novoperepelkino metro station, from where you can continue into Moscow. If you are heading into central Moscow by this route, a night bus (н11) connects Novoperepelkino onward toward Biblioteka Imeni Lenina. This is a two-leg journey and slower than the train, but it can be useful at hours when other options are thin.
Buses and Shuttles
Buses are the workhorse of local movement in Odintsovo. Several lines serve the town, including line 10, which connects to the MCD station at Odintsovo; line 1056, heading toward Marshal Biryuzov Street; and line 477, which runs to Kiev Station. Local bus line 10 operates from early morning until roughly half past nine in the evening, so plan evening trips with that in mind.
Bus stops are generally close together in the built-up parts of town — the nearest stop to a given address is often only a minute or two on foot, with others a five- or ten-minute walk away. That makes buses practical for covering the middle distances between the station, residential districts and civic buildings.
Marshrutkas — shared shuttle minibuses — supplement the bus network. Line 103K, for example, runs from early morning until late evening. Marshrutkas often follow slightly different routes and stopping patterns from full-size buses, so it is worth asking locally or checking a transit app for the specific line you need.
Tickets and Fares
On Moscow-operated public transport, fares can be paid using a Troika card or a single-journey Ediny ticket. The Troika card is the more convenient option if you will be making several trips, since it avoids buying a ticket for every leg. For the suburban train, you buy a ticket for your journey; the MCD and Aeroexpress services have their own fare structures, so do not assume one ticket covers everything.
If you need operator information, Moscow Public Transport can be reached on +7 495 539-54-54, and the MCD has its own information channels. A transit app is genuinely useful here, because bus and shuttle routes in the Odintsovo area are numerous and not always obvious to a first-time visitor.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis and ride-hailing are straightforward options in Odintsovo, and a taxi from Odintsovo into Moscow takes roughly twenty minutes in good conditions — considerably faster than the train, though the price reflects that. Ridesharing services such as BlaBlaCar also operate on the Odintsovo–Moscow corridor, typically a few times a day, and are a cheap shared alternative if your timing is flexible. For local hops within Odintsovo, a taxi is the simplest choice late in the evening when buses have stopped.
Walking
Odintsovo is a compact suburban city rather than a sprawling metropolis, and much of the central area is walkable. Distances between the railway station, nearby bus stops and local landmarks are modest, and the presence of frequent bus stops a short walk apart means you can often combine walking with a short bus ride rather than relying on a single mode. The main caveat is that some rail stations and shuttle stops sit a kilometre or more from particular destinations, so check the nearest stop to where you are actually going before setting out on foot.
Getting from the Airport
Odintsovo's practical airport connection runs through Moscow. The Aeroexpress rail service links the city's airports with the central rail terminals, and from there you continue to Odintsovo by suburban train — the Belorussky station route being the natural one, since it is the same station the Odintsovo elektrichki depart from. In effect, you take the airport train into Moscow, then transfer to the Odintsovo train. Allow generous time for the transfer, and check the last departure times for the Odintsovo line if you are arriving late in the evening.
