Getting Around Korolyov: An Overview
Korolyov is a city in Moscow Oblast, and its transport network is closely tied to the wider Moscow region. For a visitor, the practical picture is simple: the city is served by suburban rail, buses, and taxis, with Moscow's metro system acting as the gateway from the capital. The Wikivoyage guide to Korolyov covers getting in by car, train, and bus, but does not describe local tram or metro lines within the city itself, so plan on rail, bus, and road-based transport as your main options.
Arriving by Train
Suburban rail is the most straightforward way to reach Korolyov from Moscow. The town has two train stations within its proper boundaries: Podlipki Dachnie and Bolshevo.
- Trains depart from Yaroslavskii train station in Moscow.
- Take electrichkas (suburban trains) bound for Bolshevo, Shchyolkovo, Monino, Fryazevo, Detskaya, or Fryazino.
- Sputnik trains also serve the route and stop only in Bolshevo.
- If you are heading toward the dacha region beyond the town, the only station within Korolyov in that direction is Valentinovka — though the guide notes it is not a tourist destination.
One important practical warning: trains bound for Detskaya and Fryazino branch off in a different direction (toward Ivanteevka and Fryazino) from Bolshevo station. Be especially careful to distinguish trains bound for Fryazino (Фрязино) from those bound for Fryazevo (Фрязево) — these are completely different destinations. Announcements at Yaroslavskii station clearly pronounce the endings of these station names, so listen attentively.
Arriving by Bus
Several bus routes connect Korolyov with Moscow and the surrounding area:
- Buses 392, 565, and 576 run from VDNKh metro station in Moscow.
- Bus 28 runs from Mytishchi train station, starting on the east side, opposite the bus station.
Be aware that all of these buses can face traffic jams on the M8 highway, though conditions have improved somewhat since multilevel traffic interchanges were opened on the M8 between Mytishchi and Korolyov.
Arriving by Car
If you are driving, take the M8 highway. The town begins right from the highway on its right side, opposite Mytishchi.
Getting Around the City
Based on the available information, visitors should expect to rely on the suburban rail stations within town, buses arriving from Moscow and Mytishchi, and taxis or ride-hailing for local trips. The guide does not provide details on ticket purchase, travel passes, or fare systems, so it is best to check locally or consult Russian rail and bus operators for current ticketing options.
Walkability
As with many Moscow Oblast towns, the central areas around the train stations are likely to be the most convenient on foot, but you should not assume the entire city is easily walkable. Plan to combine walking with rail or road transport for longer distances.
Airport Connections
To plan an airport transfer, you would need to consult current information on Moscow's airports and the rail or road connections from them toward Korolyov — this is not covered in the reference material available here.
