Getting around Sector 6
Sector 6 is an administrative district in the west of Bucharest, made up of the quarters Crângași, Drumul Taberei, Ghencea, Giulești, Militari and Regie. For a visitor, the practical point is that the sector is well woven into the city's public transport system: metro, tram, trolleybus and bus routes all reach into it, and the city centre is close enough that taxis are a realistic option too. The notes below describe the modes and how to use them, rather than timetables you can rely on.
How visitors move around
Most movement in and around Sector 6 happens on the city's public transport network, run by two main operators: STB (Societatea de Transport București), which operates the surface network of buses, trams and trolleybuses, and Metrorex, which runs the subway. The two connect at shared stops and stations, so a typical trip mixes a metro ride with a short walk or a surface connection. For shorter hops within a quarter, walking is straightforward, and taxis cover the gaps.
Metro
The subway is the quickest way to cover the distance between the centre and the western districts. Metro line M3 serves Sector 6, with stations including Lujerului and Gorjului. From the centre, a ride on M3 from Piața Unirii toward Gorjului is a direct, short trip. Metro service runs from early morning until close to midnight. Stations are marked and tickets or passes are bought at the station; the metro is a separate system from the STB surface network, so a metro ticket does not automatically cover a tram or bus connection.
Trams and trolleybuses
Trams are a workhorse of the western districts. Tram line 41 runs between Piața Presei and Ghencea, passing through the sector, and tram line 25 connects Dr. Constantin Istrati with Romancierilor. Trams generally run from around early morning until late evening. Trolleybuses supplement the trams: lines 61, 62 and 63 serve the area around Lujerului and Uverturii, with line 61 also linking Universitate in the centre to Piața Gorjului. Trolleybus service starts early and runs late into the evening.
Buses and night services
Buses fill in where rail and tram lines don't reach. STB bus line 137 runs between the centre — departing from Piața 21 Decembrie 1989 — and a stop in Sector 6, a direct trip of roughly half an hour, with departures about every fifteen minutes through the day. Other bus lines serving the sector include 178 (Sala Palatului to Complex Apusului), 434 and 483. For late nights, night bus N115 serves the area. STB can be reached on +40 21 9391 or at info@stbsa.ro, and its website is stb.ro — useful for checking current routes and fares before you travel.
Tickets and passes
Buy tickets or passes before boarding where possible; STB sells them through its own channels and at outlets, and the metro sells its own at stations. Because the metro and the surface network are run by different operators, check whether the ticket you hold covers the mode you are about to use. Fare figures quoted by trip-planning websites are estimates rather than official tariffs, so confirm current prices with STB or Metrorex directly.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Taxis are a convenient option for short trips or when you are carrying luggage. A taxi from the city centre to Sector 6 is a short ride — on the order of ten to fifteen minutes in normal traffic — and inexpensive. Ride-hailing apps work in Bucharest as well and are a good fallback late at night or when you don't want to wait at a stop.
Walking
The sector's quarters are compact enough that walking works well for local errands and for reaching stops and stations. Many key destinations sit within a few minutes' walk of transit: for example, the area around Sos. Virtuţii is roughly a four-minute walk from the Bd. Uverturii tram stop, about five minutes from Lujerului metro station, and a short walk from trolleybus and bus stops. Landmarks such as Grădina Uverturii make useful orientation points.
Getting in from the airport
The reference material does not describe airport connections, so the safest guidance is to plan your airport-to-sector trip using the city's main transport tools: check STB (stb.ro) and Metrorex for the current route from the airport into the city, and combine a surface connection with the metro where needed. Taxis and ride-hailing are the simplest door-to-door option if you are arriving with luggage, and the metro is the faster choice once you are in the city.
