Getting Around Naga
Naga is an easy city to navigate, and visitors will find that most local trips are short and inexpensive. Public transportation is provided by pedicabs, jeepneys and tricycles (motorcycles with a sidecar), and taxis are also available. For longer journeys or if you prefer door-to-door convenience, driving yourself is a straightforward option — navigating Naga is easy by car.
Rail
Naga has a Philippine National Railways (PNR) station on PNR Road. Rail service here is limited and oriented toward nearby towns rather than a dense urban network: PNR runs two daily trips to towns to the northwest and one trip to Legazpi. There is no metro or tram system in the city, so rail is best thought of as an option for regional excursions rather than everyday movement around Naga.
Buses and Other Public Transport
The city's main hub for intercity buses is the Bicol Central Terminal (Naga City Central Bus Terminal) on Ninoy and Cory Avenue, near SM City Naga. It is open 24 hours and is the largest and busiest bus station in the region. Inside, stalls sell local food, and signs direct you to the bays serving particular destinations — for example, buses headed to Manila or to Daet. Long-distance services connect Naga with Metro Manila via Lucena, a journey of roughly 8–10 hours.
For shorter regional hops, UV Express vans are a common choice. They run to Naga from Legazpi, Daet and Tabaco, and they arrive and depart from two dedicated terminals:
- Eastbound Van and Multicab Terminal — Waling-Waling St, Naga City Subd, Triangulo; open 5AM–6PM. Serves UV Express to destinations in Partido, Rinconada District, and Albay.
- Westbound Van Terminal — Felix Plazo St, Sabang (near LCC Mall); open 5AM–6PM. Serves UV Express to destinations in northwest Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte.
Within the city itself, jeepneys, pedicabs and tricycles cover the short local trips. Fares are low; as a point of reference, a jeepney or bus ride from the airport highway into downtown costs around ₱15.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis are available in Naga, which gives you a metered or negotiated alternative to the jeepney and tricycle network, particularly useful when carrying luggage or travelling after dark.
Walkability
Walking works well for short hops in the commercial center — the bus terminal, for instance, sits near SM City Naga, so you can combine errands on foot. For anything beyond the immediate downtown area, though, you will generally want a pedicab, tricycle or jeepney rather than relying on foot alone.
Getting from the Airport into the City
Naga's airport — the only one in Camarines Sur — is actually located in Pili, some distance from the city center. The airport is served by Cebgo, with flights to and from Cebu–Mactan Airport and Manila–Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and by Sunlight Air, with flights to and from Manila–Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
To reach downtown Naga from the airport, you first walk a short distance to the main highway. From there, jeepneys and buses pass by and will take you into the city center in about 30 minutes for roughly ₱15. This is the standard and most economical way in; simply flag down a passing jeepney or bus headed for downtown.
Reaching the Ferry for Catanduanes
If your travels take you onward to Virac on Catanduanes Island, the route runs through Tabaco. Take a minivan from the Naga van terminal to Tabaco city (about 2 hours, ₱180). From Tabaco Port on Ligao-Tabaco Road, which is open 24 hours, a fast ferry departs daily at noon; the crossing takes about 1.5 hours and the fare is around ₱330.
Arriving by Car
Naga City lies along Asian Highway 26 and is roughly 445 km by road from Manila, making it reachable by private vehicle if you prefer to drive yourself. Once in the city, driving remains one of the easiest ways to get around.
