Getting to Hagonoy
Hagonoy is bypassed by the major highways in Bulacan, so most visitors arrive through the provincial capital, Malolos, or through Paombong. Be aware that the Halang Bridge has been closed for structural reasons since late 2025, and this shapes almost every journey into town: most travelers have to stop their vehicles about two kilometres from the town centre, walk across a pontoon bridge, and then pick up a tricycle on the other side to reach downtown.
There are two useful alternatives to that routine. One is to turn left from Longos Junction along MacArthur Highway in Malolos and follow a narrow two-lane provincial road that leads directly to downtown Hagonoy via Paombong. The other is to take a narrow road in from Calumpit.
Buses and jeepneys
Because of the Halang Bridge closure, most public transport to Hagonoy terminates at the bridge rather than continuing into the centre. This applies to the buses from Cubao in Quezon City operated by Golden Bee and Baliwag Transit, and to the jeepneys coming from Paombong and Malolos.
- From Malolos: a bus journey to Hagonoy costs around P30.
- Baliwag Transit temporary terminal: located on Hagonoy-Paombong Road in San Pedro, serving as a stop while the bridge remains closed.
Plan on the final leg into town being on foot across the pontoon bridge and then by tricycle, rather than a single through-service.
Tricycles: the main way around
Tricycles are the primary form of transport between barangays and the mode you will use most once you are in Hagonoy. Locals call them tikling, after a long-legged bird, because of their thin frame and unusually high stance, which lets them cope with the town's chronically flooded streets.
- Fares start at around P20 in the dry season.
- Fares can reach P60 when the streets flood.
Expect to negotiate the fare with the driver, and expect to pay more in the wet months.
Boats to the coastal barangays
Northern Hagonoy and the downtown area are reachable by motor vehicle, but a trip to the coastal barangays further south requires a boat. If those barangays are on your itinerary, treat the boat as an essential leg of the journey rather than an optional detour.
Rail, metro and tram
There is no rail, metro or tram network serving Hagonoy. Getting around relies on road transport and, for the southern coastal areas, boats.
Taxis and ride-hailing
Hagonoy is not served by a taxi or ride-hailing network in any practical sense. Tricycles are the local equivalent for short trips between barangays, and buses and jeepneys handle the longer connections to Malolos, Paombong and Cubao.
Walkability
Walking is a built-in part of any arrival in Hagonoy at present, since the Halang Bridge closure forces most travelers to leave their vehicle and cross the pontoon bridge on foot before continuing by tricycle. Beyond that crossing, the town is best navigated by tricycle, particularly given the flooding that the tikling's high frame is designed to handle.
Reaching Hagonoy from the airport
The source material does not describe a direct airport connection to Hagonoy. In practice, the documented route into town runs through Malolos, which is the gateway most visitors use, with buses from Cubao in Quezon City (Golden Bee and Baliwag Transit) among the services that reach the Hagonoy area. From Malolos or Paombong, continue by bus or jeepney to the Halang Bridge area, cross the pontoon bridge on foot, and take a tricycle into downtown.
