Getting to Ibadan
Travelers can reach Ibadan from various locations within Nigeria using a combination of road and rail transport. For those traveling from the coastal region, the city serves as a major transit point. If you are arriving from Lagos, there are several options for reaching the city:
- By Road: Shared cars and buses are available from multiple terminals in Lagos. These buses typically arrive in the southern part of the city, with Iwo-Road being a popular destination. Regional buses also connect Ibadan to other major towns in Southwestern Nigeria, such as Abeokuta, Ile-Ife, Ogun, Ekiti, and Oyo. For travelers heading toward northern or eastern regions, night buses provide connections through cities like Abuja, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Katsina.
- By Rail: A high-speed rail line connects Ibadan to Lagos via Abeokuta. This modern line features a station located in Moniya, which is situated far north of the city center; travelers arriving here will need to arrange a connecting bus or taxi to reach the heart of the city. Additionally, an older narrow-gauge rail route runs from Kano through Kaduna to Lagos. These long-distance trains stop at a more centrally located old station, though they are subject to frequent cancellations and typically run only a few times per week.
- By Air: Ibadan has its own airport which serves domestic flights from cities including Abuja, Lagos, and Ilorin.

- Buses and Shared Cars: There is an extensive network of minibuses and shared cars throughout the city. These provide a common way to move across town, with standard fares being very affordable for local trips.
- Motorcycle Taxis (Okadas): For shorter distances or navigating through traffic, motorcycle taxis known as "okadas" are available everywhere in the city. While they are an inexpensive and convenient option, travelers should exercise caution as some riders can be erratic.
