Getting Around Seremban
Seremban offers several transport options for visitors, though some modes are more practical than others. The city's main transportation hub is Terminal 1 Bus Terminal and Shopping Centre, which serves as the departure point for most buses. Getting around the city itself requires some planning, as walkability and cycling are limited, making taxis and ride-hailing services the most convenient choices for short trips.
Rail Networks
Seremban has two main railway connections. The Seremban railway station, located opposite Seremban Parade on Jalan Antah, is operated by KTM and serves as a major stop on the main railway line linking Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. This station also acts as the southern terminal for the KTM Komuter electrified commuter network on the Seremban Line, which connects the town to Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. This makes commuter rail an efficient option for day trips to the capital and surrounding areas.
An additional KTM train station operates at Senawang, offering another access point to the rail network. A historic railway line also connects Seremban to Port Dickson, built during the colonial era, though this route is less frequently used today.
Bus Services
Terminal 1 Bus Terminal and Shopping Centre, located on Jalan Lintang, is Seremban's primary bus hub. The terminal handles both local and longer-distance services.
For travel within Negeri Sembilan state, BAS.MY provides local bus services to outlying towns including Port Dickson, Bahau, Jelebu, and Tampin. These buses offer quality and punctual service to residents and visitors.
For intercity travel, several express bus companies operate from the terminal, including Sistem Kenderaan Seremban, Suasana Edaran, Plusliner, Cepat Express, Mara Liner, Statecoach, and Cityliner. These services connect Seremban to Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, and other towns across Peninsular Malaysia, as well as to Thailand and Singapore.
The city council also offers a free shuttle bus service, which provides an economical option for getting around town, though usage has historically been limited.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Online ride-hailing services like Grab are popular in Seremban and offer a convenient way to travel around the city. This is often the most practical option for visitors unfamiliar with the area.
Walkability and Cycling
Seremban is pedestrian-unfriendly for general transport purposes. The town lacks adequate pedestrian crossings and designated pedestrian paths, particularly in central Seremban, and there are few facilities for disabled travelers. Walking is therefore an unpopular means of getting around for most journeys.
Cycling is similarly impractical as a transport mode due to narrow road lanes and safety concerns. Bicycles are better suited for recreational use in parks like Lake Gardens or City Park, though neither facility is designed specifically for cyclists.
Driving
Seremban is well-connected by road to other Malaysian cities. Federal Route 1, the oldest major roadway along Malaysia's West Coast, runs through Seremban and connects it to towns including Rembau and Tampin to the south, and Kajang to the north. The route also provides access to Kuala Klawang, Kuala Pilah to the east, and Port Dickson to the west.
The North–South Expressway runs through the town and provides fast connections to Malacca and Johor Bahru to the south and Kuala Lumpur to the north. Drivers can exit to Seremban via three interchanges: Seremban, Port Dickson, and Senawang (from north to south).
The Seremban–Port Dickson Highway offers a faster, tolled alternative route to Port Dickson. The Seremban Inner Ring Road helps alleviate traffic flow in and out of the town centre.
Driving around Seremban during the day can be challenging due to congestion, particularly on roads like Jalan Tuanku Antah, Jalan Rasah, and Jalan Sungai Ujong, as well as in the main city centre. However, traffic is generally less severe than in Kuala Lumpur or Penang. Traffic increases during weekends and public holidays as people return from work in nearby major cities.
Getting from Kuala Lumpur International Airport
Seremban does not have its own airport. However, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the nearest major airport, located approximately 30 minutes' drive away. The airport is easily accessible via the PLUS highways.
From the airport, visitors can reach Seremban by car via the North–South Expressway or LEKAS highway. A journey from KLIA typically takes around 30 minutes by road. Alternatively, visitors can use express bus services from the airport that operate to various towns, though checking schedules in advance is recommended.
