Getting Around Xico

The town center and its immediate surroundings are small enough that walking is the natural way to get between the plaza, the streets, and the local sights. For anything beyond the center, you'll want to switch to a taxi.

Walking and Biking

Walking is the primary way to get around Xico itself. Because the town is compact, you can cover the core on foot without needing any other form of transport. Biking is the other recommended option for exploring the town, giving you a bit more range while still keeping things simple.

Taxis

Taxis are the practical choice when you want to go beyond the walkable core. Taxis are also the link between Xico and the larger city of Xalapa — a taxi from Xalapa to Xico takes about 20 minutes and costs around M$200.

Buses and Combis

Xico is served by regional buses and combis (shared minivans) rather than by any local rail or metro system. ADO and AU (Autobuses Unidos) run several buses per day to Xalapa, so the long-distance leg is well covered by these two operators.

Rail, Metro and Trams

Visitors should not expect to rely on trains or trams here; the practical options are walking, biking, taxis, combis, and regional buses.

Getting There from the Airport

The route it does describe is overland: reach Xalapa by bus from Puebla, then take a combi or taxi the rest of the way to Xico. If you are arriving by air, plan to connect through Xalapa and complete the final leg by combi or taxi.
