Getting Around Rimini

Rimini sprawls along the Adriatic coast, but most of what a visitor wants — the beach, the old town, the main hotel strip — sits close together, and the city is well served by a mix of walking, cycling, buses and a modern rapid-transit line. This guide covers the practical options for moving around and for reaching the city from its airport.

Walking

Rimini is a genuinely walkable city for the areas most tourists use. Most hotels are within walking distance of both the beach and the centre, so if you are basing yourself in the main resort area you can cover a great deal on foot. The railway station sits near the old town at the north end of the main beach strip, which makes it easy to arrive by train and walk to your accommodation.

Buses and Public Transport

The city has a modern urban network of minibuses, coaches and eco-vehicles. Buses run regularly from the railway station and are described as frequent and cheap, which makes them a good option if you want to travel along the coast or head inland. The main bus stop is at Palacongressi, served by several lines. Timetables are available from Start Romagna.

Metromare

METROMARE is a zero-emissions electric bus rapid transit (BRT) line connecting Rimini and Riccione railway stations. It runs daily, with frequent service and a number of intermediate stops along the way. It is a convenient link if you are moving between the two coastal towns.

Cycling and E-Scooters

Rimini is a bike-friendly city with expanding greenways and cycle paths. Many hotels provide bicycles for guests, and the municipality offers a bike sharing service. Rimini station's Bike Park provides bicycle rental, parking and repair services.

Electric scooters are also a popular, low-impact way to get around. Two providers operate in the city:

Both operate on a pay-per-minute basis and require downloading their respective apps (available for Android and iOS) to locate and unlock vehicles.

Taxis and Car Rental

Car rental services, with or without drivers, are available for exploring the city and the surrounding area. Taxi sharing is another option, including for hotel-to-Palacongressi transportation.

Getting There

By plane: Federico Fellini International Airport (RMI) lies southeast of the town centre. It has regular flights from Moscow and other East European cities, and from within Italy, plus western seasonal destinations such as Munich, London Stansted and Vienna. Start Romagna Bus 9 runs to town every 20 minutes, taking about 30 minutes to the railway station. You could also fly into Marche Airport near Ancona, or into Bologna.

By train: Fast trains run from Milan via Bologna through Rimini to Ancona, Bari and Lecce, though they don't all stop at Rimini, so you may have to change at Bologna for the hourly regional train via Imola, Faenza, Forlì and Cesena. Another train runs hourly from Ravenna via Cervia and Cesenatico to Rimini. Rimini railway station is near the old town, at the north end of the main beach strip, next to the bus station, and has an ATM, a news stand and a tourist information centre.

By car: The A14, a six-lane motorway known as the autostrada del mare, runs away to the north. The SS 72 heads inland towards San Marino, and the SS16 heads in from the north and Ravenna.

By bus: Flixbus has direct buses from Milan, Venice-Mestre, Bergamo, Ancona, Pescara, Rome and elsewhere.
