Getting Around Firozabad: An Overview

Firozabad is a compact city near Agra in Uttar Pradesh, best known as the centre of India's glassmaking industry and for its bangles and glassware. For a visitor, the practical picture is simple: there is no metro or tram to rely on, rail is the most affordable way in and out, buses and shared auto-rickshaws do most of the local work, and taxis are best arranged as pre-paid or radio services. The notes below cover each option in plain terms.

Rail

The main line of the Northern Railway passes through Firozabad on the south side of town, and the city has numerous local and suburban railway stations. Rail is described as the most affordable mode for both shorter and longer trips, which makes it a sensible default for reaching Agra, Shikohabad and beyond.

Trains that pass through Firozabad station include the Lal Quilla Express, Gomti Express, Kalka Mail, Magadh Express, Ibadat Express, Ljn Intercity, Toofan Express, Mahananda Express, Farakka Express, Muri Express, Avadh Express, Sangam Express and Kalindi Express. Check timings locally before you travel, since these are through services rather than a dedicated city network.

Metro and Tram

There is no metro or tram network in Firozabad. Metro services for the city are only at an initial planning stage, with nothing decided, so do not plan your visit around them.

Buses and Other Public Transport

City bus services are operated and regulated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), an autonomous state body. Buses reportedly run on compressed natural gas (CNG), and there are multiple routes within the city served by numerous bus depots and bus stops. The Lekhraj bus stop is described as a key stop in Firozabad.

The city sits near National Highways NH 24, NH 28, NH 25 and NH 56, and the roads are described as generally well maintained. A stretch of the old NH 2 also runs through Firozabad, going northwest toward Delhi and southeast toward Kolkata.

Auto-Rickshaws and Tempos

Auto-rickshaws and tempos are the most popular local modes of transport. Tempos are the older mode; auto-rickshaws are now more popular. Auto-rickshaws run on a shared basis and can also be hired whole, while tempos operate on a hire basis.

On fares: use metered autos where fares are displayed, and for non-metered autos and tempos, agree the fare beforehand.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Pre-paid taxis are the most common taxi option in Firozabad. Radio taxis, available around the clock through travel agencies, are also an option. Fix the contract price before boarding.

Walking

For longer trips, rely on the auto-rickshaws, tempos and buses described above.

Getting In from the Airport

Firozabad has no airport of its own. The nearby airports are Kheria Airport in Agra and Taj International Airport at Tundla. From either, the practical onward options are the same ones that serve the city: rail into Firozabad station, UPSRTC or private buses, or a pre-paid or radio taxi with the price agreed in advance. Agra is the closer of the two by road, and buses connect Firozabad with Agra directly.
