Getting Around Hosur

Hosur is an industrial city in Tamil Nadu, sitting close to the Karnataka border and within easy reach of Bengaluru. It is a compact, workaday city rather than a tourist town, so getting around is mostly a matter of using the same everyday transport that residents rely on: buses, auto-rickshaws, taxis and app-based cabs, plus the railway station for longer hops. Tamil is the official language and is spoken by most people, though Telugu and Kannada are also widely spoken, which can help if you are coming from Karnataka.

Rail

Hosur has its own railway station, which sits on the Bengaluru–Salem line and falls under the Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway. The station is served by frequent passenger trains between Hosur and Bengaluru, along with intercity and express services that connect the city to major destinations across the country. For a visitor, this makes the train a straightforward option for the Hosur–Bengaluru trip and for onward travel to larger cities.

Buses and Public Transport

The city's main bus hub is the K. Appavu Pillai Memorial Bus Terminus, the central bus station. From here, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) buses, operated by the Salem Division, connect Hosur to major cities and towns across Tamil Nadu as well as to neighbouring states. Several private operators also run services from the city, and buses from Karnataka (KSRTC), Andhra Pradesh (APSRTC) and Puducherry (PRTC) operate here too.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing

Auto-rickshaws and taxis are the practical choice for point-to-point trips within Hosur and for short runs to nearby spots. Ride-hailing apps are widely used in this part of India and are a convenient way to avoid haggling over fares, particularly if you are not familiar with local rates. For longer journeys — such as the run to Bengaluru or to the airport — a hired car or an app-based cab is the most comfortable option.

Walkability

Hosur is an industrial city spread across a wide area, and the road network is dominated by the highway corridor that passes through it. Walking is realistic for short errands and around specific localities, but it is not a practical way to cover the city as a whole. Expect to combine walking with buses, autos or cabs for most days out.

Getting In from the Airport

The nearest major airport is Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) near Bengaluru, which is the closest active airport to Hosur. There is no rail or metro link directly from the airport to Hosur, so the realistic options are a taxi or app-based cab for the whole journey, or a combination of transport into Bengaluru and then a train or bus onward to Hosur.

Note that Hosur Aerodrome is a private aerodrome used for routine maintenance and inspections of aircraft, not for scheduled passenger flights, so it is not an arrival point for visitors. Plans have also been announced for a future greenfield airport for Hosur, but until that is built, Bengaluru's airport remains the gateway.

By Car and the Highway Connection

Hosur is directly connected to Bengaluru via Hosur Road (NH 44), and drivers travelling between the two cross the Attibele Toll Plaza. NH 44 continues beyond Hosur toward Krishnagiri and eventually Kanyakumari, while NH 648 and NH 844 also link the city to other destinations. If you are driving yourself or arriving by car, this highway corridor is the main artery in and out of the city.
