Getting Around Thrissur

Public Buses
Buses are a primary way to travel within and around Thrissur. The city's bus system is dominated by private operators, which provide extensive coverage across the city. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), a state-owned operator, also runs services from its dedicated bus station.
Two main bus terminals serve the city: the Shaktan Thampuran Private Bus Stand, which handles inter-state, district, and local private buses, and the Thrissur KSRTC bus station, where all state-operated services depart. Private buses operate throughout the day and reach into various neighborhoods of the city. Both public and private bus services are considered reliable options for getting around.
Auto Rickshaws
Auto rickshaws are the main form of local transport for visitors without their own vehicle. Within the city limits, auto rickshaws are required to use fare meters, making prices transparent and regulated. Auto rickshaws operating from adjacent areas outside the city are not required to use meters; however, these vehicles are not supposed to pick up passengers within city limits.

Thrissur has no commercial airport of its own. The nearest major airport is Cochin International Airport, located approximately 50 kilometers away. This airport offers direct domestic flights to major Indian cities including Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, as well as international connections to Middle Eastern destinations and Southeast Asia.
Two alternative airports are also accessible: Calicut International Airport, roughly 80 kilometers away in Malappuram District, and Coimbatore Airport, approximately 114 kilometers away. Both can serve as entry points depending on flight availability and convenience.
From these airports, buses connect directly to Thrissur, or you can arrange taxi or car rental services to reach the city.
