Getting Around Jind
Jind is a district headquarters city in Haryana, and getting around it is straightforward rather than complicated. There is no metro or tram network here, and no airport of its own, so visitors should plan on a mix of trains, buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis, with the nearest major airport located in New Delhi. The notes below cover what exists and how to use it.
Rail
Jind Junction Railway Station is a prominent railhead of Haryana and serves as the main station for the city. A second, smaller station, Jind City railway station, sits closer to the city centre. If your destination is central Jind, Jind City station can save you a short onward trip; for longer-distance connections, Jind Junction is the principal stop. Buy tickets at the station booking counters or through the usual Indian Railways online and mobile booking channels.
Buses and Other Public Transport
National Highway 71 passes through Jind, which makes the city reachable and traversable by road. Buses are the main form of public transport for arrivals and for travel between Jind and neighbouring towns and districts. There is no metro or tram system in Jind, so buses, shared auto-rickshaws and similar road transport fill that role.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Taxis and auto-rickshaws are the practical way to cover specific trips within the city and to reach the railway stations or the highway. For local hops, expect to negotiate the fare with the driver, or agree on it before setting off. Ride-hailing apps are a convenient option where available, but coverage in a city of this size can be limited, so it is wise to have a fallback such as a local taxi or auto-rickshaw stand.
Walking
Central Jind is compact enough that walking works well for short errands, and the older core of the city is built around the Jayanti Devi Temple, which sits at its centre. Several of the city's main draws — including Rani Talab, the principal destination for tourists — are within the built-up area, so a visitor based centrally can cover a good deal on foot. Do bear in mind that pavements and street lighting may be inconsistent, so take care along busier roads, especially after dark.
Getting There from the Airport
Jind has no airport of its own; the nearest airport is at New Delhi. From there, the most practical options are to continue by train to Jind Junction or Jind City station, or to travel by road along National Highway 71, which passes through Jind. Because the airport is in another city, allow a substantial block of time for the onward journey and, if you are arriving late, consider arranging your transfer in advance rather than relying on finding transport on arrival.
Practical Tips
- Choose your station deliberately: Jind Junction for main-line rail connections, Jind City for the city centre.
- Use buses for intercity and district travel, and autos or taxis for short local trips.
- Agree on fares with auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers before you set off.
- Keep a local taxi or auto stand number handy in case ride-hailing coverage is thin.
- Plan your arrival from New Delhi airport in advance, since the airport is in a different city.
- Haryanavi, Hindi and Punjabi are the languages most spoken locally, which is useful when asking for directions or negotiating a fare.
