Getting to Depok from the Airport
There are no direct bus services from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Depok. To reach the city from the airport, travelers should take a DAMRI bus to one of two nearby hubs: Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta or Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta. From these terminals, you can connect to local transport networks to reach Depok.
Rail and Commuter Networks
Depok is well-served by the KA Commuter Jabodetabek rail network, which connects the city to Jakarta and Bogor. There are five stations located along this route: Universitas Indonesia, Pondok Cina, Depok Baru, Depok, and Citayam.
- Yellow Line: This line runs from East Jakarta through various parts of Jakarta before reaching Depok and continuing toward Bogor or Nambo.
- Red Line: This line connects the old town area of West Jakarta to Depok and continues toward Bogor.
- Ticketing: Fares from Jakarta to Depok are approximately Rp.3,000. Travel times vary between 25 and 70 minutes depending on your starting point in Jakarta.
Note that while local commuter trains serve the city, long-distance trains do not stop at these stations; travelers needing long-distance rail should head to Gambir or Pasar Senen stations in Central Jakarta.
Buses and Minibuses (Angkot)
The Depok Baru railway station is adjacent to a major bus terminal. This hub serves as a central point for various types of transport:
- Local and Regional Buses: The terminal offers a wide range of buses and minibuses connecting Depok to Jakarta, the surrounding metropolitan area, and regional destinations in Western Java, such as Bandung and Sukabumi.
- Minibuses (Angkot): There are dozens of angkot routes throughout the city, including those heading toward South Tangerang and Jakarta. These vehicles follow fixed routes but do not have set schedules or stops; passengers can signal the driver to stop by shouting "Kiri!" (left). The fare for an angkot ride within the city is fixed at Rp.3,000.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
For more direct point-to-point travel, several options are available:
- Taxis: Reputable companies such as Blue Bird and Express have branches in Depok. Taxi ranks are commonly found at hotels, shopping malls, and along the main artery, Jalan Margonda Raya.
- Ride-Hailing: Online ride-hailing services, including Grab and Gojek, are widely available throughout the city and can be booked via their respective mobile applications.
Road Access and Navigation
The primary road connecting South Jakarta to Depok is Jalan Margonda Raya, which passes through the University of Indonesia campus. This road is a major thoroughfare but can become very crowded during morning and evening peak hours. Alternatively, the Jagorawi toll road provides access from Jakarta toward Bogor, with a nearby exit leading onto the Cijago toll road, which leads directly into the heart of Depok.
