Getting Around Jombang
Jombang sits in East Java and is served by a compact set of transport options that a visitor can pick up quickly. The town has its own railway station, a main bus terminal, and a local minibus network, while ride-hailing apps are becoming an increasingly common way to move around. Note that "Jombang" is also the name of districts in Jember Regency and in the city of Cilegon in Banten, so make sure your tickets and searches point to Jombang in East Java.
Local minibuses (angkot)
The traditional way to get around town and out to the surrounding sub-districts is the angkot (angkutan kota), the local minibus. The network is extensive enough to reach all Jombang sub-districts, so for short hops within town or trips to nearby areas, angkot are a practical and cheap choice. They run on fixed routes rather than to a schedule, so ask locally which route serves your destination.
Ride-hailing
Ride-hailing through the usual apps is increasingly common in Jombang. For visitors, this is often the simplest option: you avoid negotiating fares and can be dropped directly at your destination. It is a good complement to the angkot network, particularly for trips where no convenient minibus route exists.
Buses and the main terminal
Kepuhsari Bus Terminal is the main bus terminal in Jombang and the hub for intercity travel. Several points in town are commonly used by local travellers: Kepuhsari Bus Terminal itself, Terminal Lama (the Old Terminal, at the T-intersection near Darul Ulum University), and Jombang Train Station.
- To and from Surabaya: Buses leave from Purabaya/Bungurasih Bus Terminal in Surabaya. Any bus headed for Yogyakarta, Madiun, Ponorogo, Kertosono, Nganjuk or Tulungagung passes through Kepuhsari Bus Terminal. The trip takes roughly two hours, and an air-conditioned bus costs around Rp10,000. Be aware that after about 16:00 or 17:00, buses no longer enter the terminal and instead stop only at the front gate.
- To and from Malang: Look for the blue bus named Puspa Indah at Landungsari Bus Terminal in Malang. The journey takes around three hours. This is a small, non-air-conditioned bus and the ride can be brisk over hilly roads, but the scenery through the mountains and rice fields is excellent. The fare is around Rp18,000.
- To and from Yogyakarta: From Giwangan Bus Terminal in Yogyakarta, take any bus departing for Surabaya; all of them pass Jombang. The journey takes around six hours, and the economy fare is around Rp43,000.
Train
Jombang has its own railway station, which is one of the town's commonly used stop points. For schedules and fares, check the official KAI (Indonesian Railways) website before you travel, since services and prices change.
By car
If you are driving yourself or arriving by road, Jombang is accessible via the Kertosono–Mojokerto Highway.
Walkability
For getting between the station, the terminals and your accommodation, plan on using angkot, ride-hailing or a car rather than relying on walking alone.
Getting there from the airport
The closest airport to Jombang is Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. From there, the practical onward options are the intercity buses that connect Surabaya with Jombang (departing from Purabaya/Bungurasih Bus Terminal) or the train to Jombang Railway Station. Check the KAI website for train times and fares before setting out.
